Latin Patriarch misleads - again!

Mr. Sabbah, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, uses the language of peace and quotes the prophets of Jewish and Christian Scripture to present an image of peace and non-violence. But if you parse his words carefully, you will see that his message is a message of support for the Arab terrorist forces that seek no peace, promise terrorism until victory, and commit to the horrific goal of destroying Israel and genociding its Jews.
The Patriarch’s own statements at various occasions show him to be not just a supporter but an active accomplice to the Arab terror war that Arafat launched in 1994. His benign imagery of the olive branch, and his use of theological language are meant to disguise his true agenda: the unconditional support of Palestinian Arab nationalism and its genocidal goals. His excuse for suicide bombings is an obvious regurgitation of the palpably false Palestinian propaganda line that wants you to believe that suicide bombers act out of desperation and poverty: “Ours is an occupied country, which explains why people are tired and blow themselves up.” He ignores, or at least hopes that you are ignorant of, the obvious facts:
a) that most of the suicide bombers are from financially secure families,
b) some are parents to young children
c) most had productive lives and much to live for
d) all are recruited by the terror groups that use Moslem religious teaching and the inculcation of a death-cult mentality
e) some are psychologically depressed and the terrorist recruiters capitalize cruelly on their vulnerable state
f) some are prey to intimidation, black-mail, and the oft-used threat that any death other than that of a ’shahid’ will bring dishonor
And in sermons he has made clear his ultimate plan for the Jews of Israel: “In the end, we will send them away, just as we did the Crusaders”. This is almost a direct quote from a threat frequently uttered by the late Mr. Arafat himself.
Please note carefully the segments of the Patriarch’s homily reprinted below.
1. Apartheid wall:
Notice how often he refers to Israel’s defensive barrier as an “Apartheid wall”. He cannot not know that this mostly chain-link fence (not wall - it is a wall only in about 4% of its length) was built only after 9 years of horrific relentless terror war waged by Arafat. It was built to stop terror attacks. There is nothing apartheid about it. Yet he uses this terminology, straight from the propaganda of the Palestinian Authority (PA) He must also know that the barrier is indeed a high thick wall along about 4% of its length for a very specific reason: to stop Arab terrorist snipers from randomly shooting into the Israeli streets and houses.
Fence or wall, it did not exist until the terror war. It was built to stop the terror attacks. When the terror war is over, it can be taken down. It has no comparison with the Berlin wall, but he makes the comparison just as do the Arab propagandists. He mimics their language, apes their accusations, regurgitates their lies.
2. Non-violent struggle for peace:
Since Arafat signed the Oslo Accords in 1993, he and his terror cohorts have launched more than 28,000 terror attacks, killing more than 1,700 Israelis (Jews, Christians, Moslems, locals, tourists, and foreign workers) and wounding almost 7,000.
In terms of proportions of populations, this is the equivalent of 58,000 dead Americans. 150% of the total casualties of the Viet Nam war. Or the same as 9/11 every month for more than two years. What would any American want his government to do in the face of such carnage?
3. Confiscation of lands:
He must know, and he must also know that you probably do not know, that there has been no confiscation of lands. The fence, for almost all of its length, runs on public land that is owned legally by the Israeli government. Where it has crossed private land, the owners have been compensated at fair market value per the laws of eminent domain (similar to eminent domain in the USA). In a number of incidents, the owners have petitioned the Israeli high court of justice to change the course of the fence, and in some of these cases the courts have decided in favour of the plaintiffs. The recent high-profile case of land in east Jerusalem owned by families in Beth Jalla is one of many that demonstrate Israel’s willingness to respect private land and avoid unnecessary inconvenience or financial loss.
And all of this takes place in the middle of the terror war that Arafat proclaimed in 1994, and his cohorts and successors continue to this day.
4. His ‘demands’:
“We demand the demolition of the wall, and say it is wrong and an infringement on our properties. It is an infringement on the relationship of love which is imperative between the two peoples. We need bridges, not walls. Walls isolate; nurse hatred and hostilities, resulting in more killing and acts of violence. And therefore, those who erected the wall are clearly at fault.”
He knows that the barrier stops terror attacks, and saves lives. He knows that there was no barrier before the terror attacks began. He knows that Israel has offered to dismantle the wall when the terrorism stops. And he knows that by demanding the unilateral demolition of the barrier, he is aiding and abetting the terrorists. Yet he shouts his Jeremiads against Israel.
5. What he does not say:
Notice that there is not a word of criticism against the terrorists. Not a comment about the need for the attacks to stop, for the suicide bombers to be restrained by their own society, for the Palestinian schools to stop teaching the hatred that characterizes their curricula from kindergarten up, or for the Palestinian mosques to stop their hate-preach every Friday in which the audience is exhorted and energized to kill Jews.
In short, he has taken the side of the terrorists, and uses Biblical language and peace symbols to legitimize his commitment to Israel’s destruction.
He pretends that the terror war is a non-violent demonstration, that the terrorists are freedom fighters, and that all of the blame for the current carnage is squarely and solely upon Israel.
He lies. And he shames his church with his lies.
I most sincerely urge all of you to speak out against his lies.

The 3rd Sunday from the Birth - Aboud
Brethren,
1. We have come here today to join you and to lead you in prayers. We have also come to strengthen your faith in these difficult times, especially the particular ordeal you are going through caused by the erection of the Apartheid wall, and the consequent confiscation of many of your lands. This morning, God’s words to us are manifested in the following 3 readings:
2. In the first reading (Isaiah 61), profit Isaiah says: “The spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
God sends His messengers to preach to the poor, as well as to the marginalized, the infirm, and the oppressed. At the same time, the message is also addressed to the powerful and dominant; to he who causes pain and suffering upon others. Let the poor remember, their faith is their support in every venue of life. By virtue of their faith, they shall not slacken; nor shall they refrain from resisting all tyranny and evil. Armed with faith, the poor shall shed new light on events in their public and private lives; including the erection of the Apartheid wall, and the confiscation of the lands. This is a vision where we see ourselves as molders of our present and future history. By not surrendering to weakness and humiliation; and by remaining spiritually strong, calling for justice, and for the love of God, we shall achieve our vision. God’s message to us, all of us humans, all Palestinians, as well as all Israelis, is a message to every grieved person, a message to every political prisoner; as well as to every prisoner of the base self and ego, it is greed and the base self that produces oppression and tyranny towards others.
Let every human being realize that their primary call is not to launch war, erect walls, infringe upon the properties of others, or to establish life and rights at the expense of others’ lives and others’ rights. Rather, the primary call for a human being is universal love. We are here to say love is possible despite the evils we constantly live through, and the evils imposed upon us. Love is possible in this holy land; for this is the land of God, and what is God’s is attainable. Love belongs to God; and thus is attainable in our hearts as well as in theirs.
3. As to what holds specific relevance to this town and its residents as far as human, political, and political issues, “the acceptable year of the Lord” to you, is for you to let your faith and love be your guide in your political work, and in your resistance. You may say love is a foreign term in politics; I would say that it is incumbent then that you bring it into existence; since with it life will flourish and prosper. Therefore, I herewith ask you for unity of the hearts and the target, despite the multiplicity and independence of the different parties. Real liberty generates debate and discussion, not friction; and does not strive to separate brothers. Work all you can to serve the land and to win the election; but never at the expense of love and unity. There are many hurdles and difficult relations in this town. Each one of you is responsible for working out and eliminating the hurdles. The acceptable year of the Lord in this town, Aboud, is the year of unity and love.
4. We are approaching the anniversary of Christ’s birth; so let the joy of the Birth fill our hearts despite all the difficulties we go through. In reality, it is because of the difficulties and misfortunes we are going through that we need to celebrate the spiritual joy of the Birth; which is God’s grace to us to help us remain strong. And to quote the profit Isaiah in the same first reading: “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord.”
In the second reading (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-24) also says: “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks. Quench not the spirit.” Joy is connected with prayer; and prayer is being in the presence of God, and placing all efforts before him. If our efforts breed love and joy, then they’re from God; however, if they breed hatred, hostilities and frictions, they are not from God. Paul, the messenger, prays and pleads for all the believers saying: “The God of peace himself blessed you completely.” I urge you to pray so that we achieve peace and justice. God will grant us peace and justice as long as we tread His path, knowing the path can be narrow and rocky. Jesus Christ said,” Follow the narrow and difficult road; it will lead to life.”
In the third reading (John 1: 6*), we study John the Baptist who came before Christ. Saint John describes him as witness of the light:” There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the light.” This should be the testimony of every believer: Every action in the public or private life, every resistance necessary to regain our rights or demolish the wall, should keep us “witnesses of the light.”
When John was asked:” Who art thou? What sayest thou of yourself?” He said he wasn’t Christ, or Elias, or the prophet; he said: “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness; make straight the way of the Lord.” In this wilderness, this wilderness of Jordan, confess your sins and repent; and be baptized the baptism of salvation. He tells us to repent to God in the wilderness of ourselves and our burdens; to walk in his presence, to continue building our lives with earnest efforts; all in his presence.
5. Dear Brethrens, in a few weeks we will celebrate the birth of Christ: The word of God as human, guiding us, keeping us company, and providing us with peace and joy. He is the prince and provider of peace. And we, through faith and love, shall seek our own peace and that of others; and enjoy the justice we long for, with the help of God. With love and faith, we demand the demolition of the wall, and say it is wrong and an infringement on our properties. It is an infringement on the relationship of love which is imperative between the two peoples. We need bridges, not walls. Walls isolate; nurse hatred and hostilities, resulting in more killing and acts of violence. And therefore, those who erected the wall are clearly at fault. Here we are, despite the seemingly positive inclinations towards peace, and despite the stubborn intentions of those who continue the construction, calling for a review of the matter and halt of the construction. Let what is being spent on the construction of the wall be spent on building bridges of love among the hearts.
To this end we pray; following which we shall march in protest as an extension to our prayer. It will be a silent march asking God to answer our prayers. We also ask the people of the world to listen to our call that the wall is harmful, and a source of evil to all of us.
We pray, and may our prayers be a source of peace for us and for them. We pray for what is rightfully our, as well as what is rightfully theirs; as long as what is rightfully theirs is not achieved at our expense. We will march and ask from God and the people to return the land that is rightfully ours; and bring love into the hearts of all.
Let’s place everything before Him, and ask Him to fill us with his spirit, strength, and love, so we always be witnesses of the light, true builders of the land and the country, planting the seeds of love, as well as a peaceful and secure life. Amen.
