Iranian embassy vigil

AFI received this notice today:

Further to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s comments last month that Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth, the President has now said that the Holocaust is a ‘myth’ and that Europeans have used it to create a Jewish state in the heart of the Islamic world. He also said that Europe, the US or Canada should provide land to create a Jewish state.

We are holding a protest/vigil outside the Iranian Embassy on Thursday 5 January 2006.

Our message will be simple. It is totally unacceptable for a head of state, with a seat in the UN, to make such highly provocative and irrational comments. It does nothing to build bridges, encourage dialogue and understanding in the peace process and does nothing to build and maintain relations between our communities.

We are awaiting confirmation on the attendance of prominent community leaders, representatives from other faiths and MPs. Please come, show your support and exercise your right of protest. It will be a peaceful and dignified protest/vigil with a clear and simple message.
