Panoramic view of Tel Aviv

Listen to AFI Director Simon McIlwaine interviewed by Tovia Singer on Israel National Radio, 25 Jan 2006. (24 mins.)

Faith, Hate and Charity

The BBC’s Panorama is broadcasting on Sunday an investigation into claims that a UK charity’s donations have helped build support for the terrorist organization Hamas, which now controls the Palestinian government:

John Ware investigates the London-based charity Interpal which gives funds to some charities on the West Bank which help needy Palestinians.

Panorama believes some of the charities are linked to Hamas and help build support for it by spreading Islamist ideology…

John Ware visits two charities in the Hebron area which get funds from Interpal, including the Dura Islamic Society for Orphans, whose director Hashem Rjoub is a Hamas supporter.

Interpal categorically denies it is helping to build support for the Hamas movement behind the banner of humanitarian aid.

It is worth noting that Interpal has been investigated twice by the Charity Commission in the UK who have found no evidence to link Interpal with Hamas. We will wait with interest to see whether there is anything new in this broadcast.
